Some 300 miles southwest of Sri Lanka, lies an archipelago of around 2,000 wonderful, tiny islands - the Maldives. These, mostly uninhabited, coral islands sparkle like scattered diamonds across the glittering waters of the Indian Ocean. Each delightful island, providing gorgeous white sand beaches which lead on to the gentle lapping azure waters of the island\\\'s own lagoon, is the resort in itself. Diving in the Maldives is considered by many to be the best in the world with extraordinary reefs and colorful fish. All resorts offer dive schools operated by professional PADI instructors. For those of you who dream of true \\\'Robinson Crusoe\\\' escapism, these islands will melt your hearts. However, those of you who get bored by just lazing around and doing nothing, then these islands may not be the place for you. Please Note: Maldives is a Muslim country. In keeping with the religion, nudism is banned and the import of alcohol is strictly forbidden, although it is available to visitors in the resorts. Transfers to and from the islands are by speedboat or seaplane and are usually only provided in daylight hours. As some flights arrive late at night and depart in the early mornings, it would be necessary to have an overnight stay near the airport. Prices are available on request. Rare spells of bad weather, especially during the wet seasons, may result in water sports being restricted. |
